The project’s proximity to residential homes challenged the traditional interpretation of a commercial office building. Rather than starting with a large singular mass, this office building is conceived of as an arrangement of residential sized blocks. The arrangement of the blocks breaks the massing of the building and allows for a series of upper level courtyards. A system of eccentric window shapes are also used for the second floor. Having a similar fenestration strategy for the first and second floor creates unity, while using different sized windows creates movement and variation. The neutralized color palette allows the building to blend into its surroundings, while giving way to multiple spaces dedicated to landscaping and courtyards.
